Body Support System Grants Veteran Freedom of Movement
City: Colorado Springs
State: CO, Colorado
Project Type: Ceiling Lift with Body Support System
We worked with Jack, a Veteran living in Colorado Springs, CO, on his SAH project years ago and heard from him again through a representative at the Denver VA saying that Jack’s sling is uncomfortable and does not work for him anymore. Hogan was interested in trying the SureHands Body Support instead of a sling. We set up a demo at the VA clinic in Colorado Springs so that he could try it out.
The demo was held at the VA clinic at which Jack and his wife tried out the Body Support with his Physical Therapist. The Body Support worked perfectly! Hogan loves the way it squeezed him and allowed him more freedom of movement and independent use. The PT at the VA submitted a request for a ceiling lift with Body Support be installed at this home. Accessible Systems sent out our Ceiling Lift Specialist to assess the home and submitted the bid to the VA.
Within about 2 months we got the funding approval and installed the lift in the home. As pictured, we ran the track from the bed to the bathroom, over the toilet and into the shower. Limiting the number of transfers that Jack has to do throughout his daily hygiene routine. His wife is a small woman and he is quite large standing over 6 feet tall. This lift system helps her as well because now she does not have to be as hands on with his transfers and knows that he can now get to the bathroom and shower independently. This gave her some freedom back in her day.
The Body Support system allows my husband to move about the home on his own. It also saves me time because I don’t have to help with his transfers as much. It’s really nice to have that freedom and time back in our days.
